Lesson teacher gets life imprisonment for impregnating his 14-yr-old pupil

Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sitting in Lagos State has sentenced one Joseph Ibanga to life imprisonment for the defilement and impregnating of a 14-year-old girl he was contracted to teach.

Ibanga was hired as a lesson teacher for the victim who lived with her aunt at No.12, Iresi Street, Orile-Agege, Lagos between January and March 2019. He was said to have raped her whenever he went to teach her and she subsequently became pregnant and had a baby.

Delivering judgment on the case on Monday, June 6, 2022, Justice Soladoye stated that the survivor was a minor and her consent is irrelevant. He described the defendant as an ungrateful and wicked person who ravished the student with impunity and taught her nonsense. He added that Ibanga has brought ridicule to the teaching profession and the punishment will serve as a lesson to him and a warning to others.

The judge also ordered that the convict should have his name entered into the register of sexual offenders of Lagos State.
