Abuja primary school teachers embark on an indefinite strike

Primary school teachers in Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, have commenced an indefinite strike over the alleged failure of the Council’s Chairman to reach agreements with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), FCT chapter.

The branch Chairman of the union, Mr. Audu Lucky, who announced the commencement of the strike in a statement signed by four union executives, said the union was no longer ready to be taken for granted and insist that their demands have to be met by the Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Mr. Abdullahi Sabo, for work to resume.

He explained that the council chairman has failed to address the backlog of the Local Education Authority (LEA) teachers’ outstanding entitlements despite writing to him, including a letter of the ultimatum which was also disregarded.

Consequently, the union leadership resolved that all LEA Primary schools teachers in the Kuje Area council proceed on an indefinite strike action with effect from Monday, 9th Jan, 2023, until further notice.
