Half salary: ASUU considers dragging FG to court

Following the November 7th National Executive Council meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the union has said it is considering approaching the courts to challenge the Federal Government’s decision to pay lecturers half salaries for the month of October.

The union’s president, Prof. Emmanuel Osadeke in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting maintained that lecturers are not casual workers that should be subjected to a pro-rata pay system and that the government was working outside the ambiance of the law.

He called for calm and understanding from Nigerian students, parents, and other concerned individuals in the country, while they work to address the issue devoid of crisis within the legality of the law.

The union did not indicate the possibility of the squabble leading to another industrial action.
