JAMB slams ASUU president over comment on admission process

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has condemned comments credited to the president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, on alleged infringement of the rights of universities’ in the conduct of admission.

The union president had in an interview stated that university admissions were being processed by JAMB and then forwarded to vice-chancellors for approval. This he said contravened the university act and JAMB was acting out of its jurisdiction

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin in a statement issued on June 12, said prof. Osodeke was ill-informed about the admission process as the board does not conduct admissions for universities and other tertiary institutions as insinuated.

The board dared the professor to present one university vice-chancellor, a polytechnic rector, or a provost of any college of education with one candidate that was offered admission by JAMB without being recommended by the institution.

It also promised to award the professor a cash prize of one million naira if he can substantiate his falsehood with any proof.
