The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the introduction of computer-based testing (CBT) and individualized question formats for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, said the move is aimed at curbing examination malpractice and enhancing the credibility of the exam. He noted that no two candidates will have the same question on each number, making it harder to cheat.

Dr. Dangut explained that WAEC is leveraging modern information and communications technology to align with the evolving education sector and uphold the principles of the National Policy on Education in line with the vision of the Federal Ministry of Education.
He warned that any center found guilty of examination malpractice may be delisted or sanctioned, depending on the gravity of the offense. This year alone, 574 schools involved in such acts have already been reported to relevant authorities and penalized.
The WAEC boss advised parents to encourage their children to study hard and stay away from exam fraud. He also cautioned against online scammers promoting fake exam solutions, warning that the government would not hesitate to bring them to justice.
Dr. Dangut expressed optimism that with support from security agencies and state governments, WAEC will conduct this year’s exams in a safe and credible environment.
A total of 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools are expected to sit for the 2025 CB-WASSCE across the country.
