FG reintroduces history in basic education curriculum

The federal government has announced that History has been reintroduced in the basic education curriculum 13 years after it was scrapped.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held in Abuja, on Thursday, November 24, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Goodluck Nanah Opiah said 3,700 History teachers have been shortlisted for the first round of training for enhanced teaching of the subject.

He explained that the subject was reintroduced because its removal was a mistake that brought about negative consequences which have threatened the existence of Nigeria as a country due to a lack of knowledge of her evolution.

The event was attended by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
