JAMB cancels UTME registration of 817 candidates for impersonation

The registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede has announced the cancellation of the registration of 817 candidates in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations and Direct Entry examinations for impersonation.

According to Oloyede, the registrations were canceled after the board discovered that some registration officers in 178 Computer-Based Test centers added their fingerprints to complete the registration process for the candidates who were mostly naive and unaware of the fraudulent practice.

He added that some of the candidates deliberately tried to manipulate the process, but the board was unable to identify them, hence the 817 affected students will be given another opportunity to re-register for the exam while the centers will bear the cost of the registration.

The registrar explained that a message will be sent to the affected candidates and they will be required to go back to the same centers they had registered to re-register.

Oloyede also commented on the recent suspension of five CBT centers for selling UTME registration pins above the stipulated price. He disclosed that four out of the five suspects have been let off the hook and the extra money charged by the CBTs will be paid to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
