400-level OOU student arrested over alleged murder attempt on a police officer

The Ogun State police command has arrested a 400-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Victor Olabisi Oluwatimilehin, on Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 over the attempted murder of a police officer attached to the PMF 71 Awa Ijebu command.

The student was accused of knocking down the officer with his vehicle, a Toyota Camry when he was stopped for a search along Ijebu-Ode, Ibadan road.

According to a statement issued by the state’s police spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Victor was seen driving an artificially tinted car loaded with some house properties and going towards Ibadan. He was flagged down for checking but instead, he was alleged to have accelerated and intentionally knocked down one Inspector Idowu Moses.

It added that the driver continued his journey towards Ibadan believing the policeman was dead, but was traced and subsequently arrested at a village close to Ibadan.

The officer was said to have sustained serious bodily injury and passed out momentarily from the incident before being rushed to the hospital by his colleagues.

Oyeyemi added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered that the suspect be charged to court as soon as possible. He also warned that attacking his men while on duty will not be tolerated, therefore, members of the public should desist from such criminal acts.
